Learn how to play - the maps

Many combat/strategy games feature a board or table scenes of some kind (such as elaborate miniature game scenes), but the typical customizable card game does not. Dog Fight: Starship Edition combines the tactical element of physical space with a customizable card driven system.

Summary

  • Border spaces
  • Line of sight
  • Obstructions
  • In orbit

There are two basic elements to the maps in Dog Fight - distance and visibility.

Distance (whether for moving or shooting) is always counted from the space your vessel occupies starting at zero, and counting spaces outwards. For moving, distance is measured as Mobility. For attacking, distance is measured as Range.

Visibility (necessary for targeting another vessel with an effect - such as attacking) includes Range but may also include other factors. A vessel might have STEALTH, for example, which may be in very close proximity but still not "in Range" because the STEALTH ability changes how Line of Sight works.

Obstructions printed on the map may also block visibility. See this page from the official rulebook for details on obstructions.
