We are pleased to announce the release of Dog Fight: Starship Edition 2.0 has returned to The Game Crafter.
This new release includes more than merely a cosmetic retooling. Features include:
- Attacks now recognized as Energy or Projectile
- New card designs
- Reminder tokens
- "Wings" priority token
- Cheat sheet cards
- Changed "Resolution Phase" to "Action Phase"
- New core set maps
Attack Cards
ATTACK cards now feature a Combat Type icon indicating Energy or Projectile attack. ATTACK cards with no combat type icon are considered "objective" attacks. This new dynamic of Dog Fight: Starship Edition makes for lots of new card ideas and styles of game play.
Also, game cards were face lifted again but with more than a cosmetic improvement. The colors of cards are more obvious than before but the card design itself has a functional assist. Cards with artwork in the top half (such as Normal and Gear cards) are a visual reminder that they are put in play by being set face down in a tier. Cards with the artwork in the bottom half are played in some other way (discarded, played face up in a tier).
Cheat Sheet
The cheat sheet cards show card icons on one side and game phases on the other. Cheat sheets are included in all ship decks (the original Core Set decks as well as the four Extension Sets).
Action Phase
Rather than think of each stage of the game sequence as "action phases", now only the second phase is considered Action Phase. The other game phases retained their original labels.Tokens
The reverse side of the large Hull tokens now display "reminder" tokens. Also, a new "wings" Priority token is much easier to distinguish and visually keep track of during the game.
Game Maps
The original Sun map (map 1001) was far out of scale with the setting of the game. In the setting of Dog Fight: Starship Edition the ability to travel is much more limited than map 1001 implied. The new core set features an entirely different pair of maps and all Expansion Sets in the future will also take into account this scale correction.Also, map cards are no longer included. But hex tiles featuring a space setting on one side are included so maps can still be customized by hiding some aspects of the printed maps or adding others.
Map 1008 features Shiloh Station and a debris field. Map 1009 features the asteroid 433 Eros.
